We got our trash cans.... oh goody (with sarcasm)

Ok, this may sound a bit crass to most of you reading this, but Aaron and I have had a sort of joke-like bet going for the last 4 months revolving around a baby and a trash can. What you may ask?! Well, I will explain... our lovely city (it was voted the #1 place to live by Forbes a few months ago, but I digress) switched trash carriers in the spring and we were told that we would be getting new, bigger, better trash cans delivered to our house. Much like our wait for our adoption referral, months passed with no new trash cans. I know what you are thinking, it's just trash cans. But we are the type of people who get excited about little things, especially new things. So, it became the running joke between Aaron and I as to which would come first, the referral for our son or the trash cans? MONTHS passed by... and I am sad to say that Aaron was correct and our stupid new trash cans arrived yesterday. Still no referral. I did find out that 26 children were just brought into the children's home in Addis and are receiving their shots and medical exams. Usually, there is about a 1 to 2 week wait after the medical exams before children are matched with families. Soooo we may know something in a couple of weeks. Keep praying for us! I need to go now and put out the trash in my cool new automated trash container (again, sarcasm).

The Elephant in the Room

I was reading a blog on racism today and wanted to quote this exerpt:

"Oh, and you say you don’t see race? That’s B.S. You do. We all do. Our brains are hardwired to seek out those differences. It’s what you do after you see race that makes all the difference.

Talking to these people–the ones who won’t hear one mention of the word “race”–is kind of like complaining about an elephant in my living room to someone who doesn’t believe in living rooms. I say that I can’t get this danged pachyderm out of my living room, and the other person replies that living rooms are passe; that the more functional family room is where it’s at. What thinking person would still have a living room in this day and age? And I say: But…but…I still have this elephant problem."

Just something to think about.
